Teragren's proprietary manufacturing adhesive emits less formaldehyde than allowed by U.S. OSHA, European E0, CARB Phase 1 and Phase 2, and Japanese JIS/JAS (F****) emissions standards.
Adhesive specifications
To confirm that our products consistently meet our specifications, we periodically test our products by utilizing an independent testing laboratory in the United States. The test used to determine formaldehyde off-gassing is the "Large Chamber Test for Formaldehyde Emissions" and is run in accordance with ASTM E1333. View test results compared to national and international standards.
Teragren's standard manufacturing adhesives
Teragren Synergy strand bamboo flooring and coordinating stair parts and trim are made with a phenol-formaldehyde manufacturing adhesive that has a formaldehyde off-gassing level averaging 0.01ppm (parts per million), which is:
75 times lower than OSHA standards
50 times lower than California standards.
10 times lower than E0 standards
Teragren's proprietary urea-formaldehyde adhesive is currently used in the manufacturing of Signature Naturals, Signature Colors, Craftsman, Studio and Spectrum flooring, stair parts and trim, as well as Teragren's bamboo panels and veneer. It emits a maximum of 0.03 ppm of formaldehyde, levels far below those allowed by U.S. OSHA, European E0, CARB Phase 1 and Phase 2, and Japanese JIS/JAS (F****) emission standards.
Teragren butcher block countertops are made with a formaldehyde-free, food-safe manufacturing adhesive that qualifies for LEED® IEQ Credit 4.4.
LEED® MR Credit 6 information
All Teragren bamboo products contribute to certification under the U.S. Green Building Council's™ LEED® Rating System MR Credit 6: Rapidly Renewable Materials.
LEED® IEQ Credit 4.4 information
Teragren Synergy strand bamboo flooring, stair parts and trim qualify for LEED® IEQ Credit 4.4 because they are manufactured using a phenol-formaldehyde adhesive that emits an average of 0.01 ppm of formaldehyde. Teragren butcher block countertops are made with a formaldehyde-free manufacturing adhesive. The manufacturing adhesives used in these two Teragren products contain no urea formaldehyde and, as such, they contribute to IEQ Credit 4.4: Low-Emitting Materials.
Teragren Signature Naturals, Signature Colors, Craftsman, Studio and Spectrum bamboo flooring and Teragren bamboo panels and veneer products are manufactured using a urea-formaldehyde adhesive that emits a maximum of 0.03 ppm of formaldehyde, levels far below those allowed by U.S. OSHA, European E1, CARB Phase 1 and Phase 2, and Japanese JIS/JAS (F****) emission standards.
However, urea-formaldehyde adhesives do not qualify for LEED® IEQ Credit 4.4. To use these Teragren products on LEED® projects, ask about our IEQ 4.4 Enhanced program.
