Teragren's Bamboo Parquet Butcher Block Countertops/Table Tops were featured in Country Living’s 2010 House of the Year building project, “Home Green Home” June 4-17 at the World Financial Center in New York City. The prefabricated house was designed by Country Living’s editors and developed by New York-based design-builder New World Home. All of New World Home’s modular houses are built with FSC-certified lumber under a scant 60-90-day production schedule and cost between $175 and $225 per square foot. Each home is designed to seek LEED certification under the LEED for Homes program.
The 1600-square-foot Hudson cottage is part of New World Home’s Country Living Collection, which the design-builder created earlier this year in collaboration with Hearst Brand Development in an attempt to fuse green living with a classic country architectural vernacular. The house will be featured in the October 2010 issue of Country Living and includes 2 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, and a 1100-square-foot wrap-around porch. New York-based interior designer Katie Riddler furnished the house with a variety of green furnishings and products for the exhibit, and the house’s specific interior and exterior details were selected by Country Living’s editors in cooperation with New World Home. The house will reside in Crystal Springs Resort near Vernon, New Jersey and become a permanent Country Living Green Modular Home design center.
Teragren's Traditional Bamboo Panels and specially-developed bamboo open web joists were featured in the Refract House, a collaboration between Santa Clara University and the California College of the Arts, designed to showcase a holistic approach to green living. The home was on display during October, 2009, at the U.S. Department of Energy's Solar Decathlon competition, a nationally-recognized event in which 20 college and university teams compete to design, build and operate the most attractive and energy-efficient solar-powered house.
Created to employ an innovative and cost-effective strategy to climate-friendly building, the Refract House featured Teragren's Traditional Bamboo Panels for kitchen cabinetry and furniture; SCU worked closely with Teragren's R&D team to create special Teragren bamboo open web Joists for structural support. The SCU team handpicked Teragren products for the entry; Teragren also provided Traditional Bamboo Panels to fabricate I-Joists for SCU's winning 2007 Solar Decathlon entry.
The Solar Decathlon competition was open to the public at the National Mall in Washington D.C. from October 9-13 and October 15-18, 2009.
